Located in the Cusco region of Peru, the Cassiano López Coffee Farm sits at an altitude of 2,150 meters. This elevation provides an ideal microclimate for growing exceptional coffee varieties, particularly the famous Geisha coffee. Managed by Cassiano López and his family, the farm benefits from the mineral-rich volcanic soils of the Andes Mountains. These soils, combined with the cool temperatures and ample sunlight at this high altitude, contribute to the unique and complex flavor profile of their coffee beans.
The Geisha coffee from the farm is renowned for its delicate floral notes, lively acidity, and subtle aromas of jasmine, bergamot, and tropical fruits. The López family places great importance on traditional farming methods and sustainable practices. They use shade-grown techniques, planting coffee trees under the canopy of native trees such as Inca trees, banana trees, and plantains. This not only protects the coffee plants but also promotes biodiversity and soil health. With an average annual rainfall of 1,800 mm, the coffee plants are naturally nourished, reducing the need for artificial irrigation.
Culturally, the farm is deeply integrated into the local Quechua community. The majority of the residents in the area speak Quechua, the indigenous language. In this cultural context, there is a Quechua word, "Minka," which represents community collaboration and collective effort. This spirit is reflected in the operations of the farm, where community members work together in farming, harvesting, and processing tasks.
